Type: Investigation

Theme: Statistics

Grades: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Learning Target: Students will investigate a atmospheric temperature dataset to plot temps since the 1970s to produce an infographic, showing trends in two different levels of the troposphere at a select region of the globe.

This project is for groups of two (individuals OK).

  1. Select one region of the earth:
    1. Globe (all, land or ocean)
    2. Northern Hemisphere (all, land or ocean)
    3. Tropics (all, land or ocean)
    4. Northern Extra-Tropical (all, land or ocean)
    5. Southern Extra-Tropical (all, land or ocean)
    6. North Pole (all, land or ocean)
    7. South Pole (all, land or ocean)
  2. Create an infographic using PowerPoint, Inkscape, Word or another design tool, containing:
    1. Title
    2. Subtitle
    3. Your Name(s)
    4. Information about the selected region of the Earth.
    5. Two graphs from different locations in the troposphere or lower stratosphere.
    6. Trend lines on both graphs. Provide slope/rate of trend line in infographic (high school).
    7. Vertical profile illustration of the troposphere (and/or stratosphere), including elevations in km and miles
    8. Resources
  3. Obtain and provide a Peer Review.
