Common Error Puzzle Poster

Grades: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Learning Target: Students will create an error analysis poster for a topic within their area of math study and find the error in four other student's work.

This project is for individuals.

  1. Brainstorm common misconceptions in your field of study (current or previous math course).
  2. Brainstorm common math errors in your topic.
  3. Sketch 3 designs for your poster. Select the one which provides highest clarity.
  4. Create a 11"x17" poster (vertical) containing the following:
    1. Math topic.
    2. List of common misconceptions within your topic.
    3. Demonstrate the error with annotations.
    4. Provide three error 'puzzles' within your topic (don't provide the solutions). 
  5. Peer Review: Time no less than four students doing each of your puzzles. Graph a box and whisker plot of your data. 

Submission

  1. 11"x17" poster (example).
  2. Box and whisker chart of your data with analysis.
